Night fishing? Squids in.

Working over two miles from the shore in Falmouth Bay on a punt is eerie enough at night, but when the hand lines are buzzing with these guys the atmosphere is electric!

Responsible Fishing Scheme

RFS: The Responsible Fishing Scheme has been developed by Seafish to raise standards in the catching sector. It was created in response to the needs of the seafood supply chain to demonstrate a fisherman’s commitment to the responsible sourcing of seafood – it may soon become a condition of supply.

Based on a Publicly Available Specification from the British Standards Institution the Responsible Fishing Scheme is an independent, audited assessment of the application of good practice by a vessel skipper and crew in their fishing operations.

It covers Fishing Practices, Vessel Criteria, Crew Competence and Environmental Considerations.

Demonstrating that a vessel operates to industry good practice guidelines, the scheme gives an assurance to the supply chain that fish from Amanda J has been caught responsibly. The Responsible Fishing Scheme is acknowledged worldwide.

Line Caught Fish

The Amanda J uses sustainable line caught fishing methods when catching bass , mackerel, whiting and squid.

Phil Lockley is a member of the South West Handline Fishermen’s Association which represents over 150 handline fishermen in SW England. They are a group of fishermen passionate about the fish they catch and the methods used to catch them and have developed a website and tagging scheme to provide guaranteed ‘hook to plate’ traceability for customers. This site can be used by anyone in the supply chain - from wholesaler to restauranteur even a customer can see who caught their bass.
